Kalkan and surrounding area ...

Once a sleepy sponge fishing village, Kalkan has been transformed into one of the most sought after resorts on the Turkish coast, attracting a similar clientele to Tuscany, yet remaining untouched by mass tourism. Spanning an almost perfect circular bay, the village is delightful, with handsome old houses lining quaint old cobbled streets, draped in vibrant bougainvillaea.

An abundance of restaurants and shops line the streets and harbour, many utilizing roof terraces to overlook the stunning bay. Boat trips leave daily from the harbour and cost less than £10, lunch included.

Beaches

The village has a small beach and numerous bathing platforms but a short bus or taxi ride reaches Patara, with 18 km of golden sand and not a single building in sight – a worthy rival to Olu Deniz.

Kalkan is in the heart of ancient Lycia and there are excellent archaeological historical sites in the locality.
